Rosewell

Jennings already a trouble and embarrassing, good luck Hammond!

By Chris Jenkins, AP Sports Writer - According to a partial transcript of the clip posted on sportingnews.com, Jennings said he was confident that Sessions would not return to the team, boasted that he would beat out Luke Ridnour(notes) for the Bucks’ starting point guard job and made a profane comment about the New York Knicks for not drafting him.
The incident could raise questions about the maturity of Jennings, who decided to play professionally in Italy instead of going to college.

And Jennings apparently was wrong about Sessions’ future with the team as the Bucks already had sent offer to Sessions, giving Milwaukee to match any contract offers from other teams.

It is funny how they train these guys up for the press, going into the draft. Go to youtube and watch his Golden State post-workout press conference. It's like he's reciting homework "...oh yeah....I'm a pass-first point guard". He did the same thing on Rome's show. Whether Jennings really feels that way is yet to be seen, and I think you're right to wonder. I wonder. He'll defer early until established, but at some point I believe strongly that he will expect to score.

He doesn't have a great jumper. I think he deferred a lot in Italy and chose his spots fairly well, so I think he does have a conscience. It's not like he's like a no-conscience gunner like Reggie Theus back in the day, or something....

I AM NOT SAYING THIS SHOULD BE OUR PRIMARY OFFENSE, BUT... If they keep Redd then why not run a little with him at the 3, Sessions at the 2 and Jennings at point? AB will run, the Prince will run, Amir will run, and Redd can't be any worse defending 3's than he is at defending 2's. I think Sessions can get his shot off in that format and it might help him develop that part of his game further, too.

I'd love to see this team go up-tempo, and I agree Bogut can fit in a running scheme. Not sure about Redd at the 3 though, but if he could accept the role of Reggie Miller-type spot-up wing shooter, he would be very good at it.

The problem is not the offense, it's the defense. This team has no problem scoring, just ask Karl and Stotts, but always has problem defending. And you cannot win by simply trying to outscore the opponent.

The main problem of playing the above lineup is its too small, we will have huge problems rebounding - prince already undersized (he can play some PF if we have a stronger SF like RJ), and of course we can't expect Redd do anything other than shooting the jumper, Sessions/Jennings are 2 small guards, period. I know you will say our up tempo offense is the best defense, well, just take a look at the GSW, Suns, Knicks, their game is not working anymore and basically its simply not Skiles's game.

I don't know why this is even news in the first place. Somone trash-talking to a friend?? C'mon! You think every players that some off as "sweet media darlings" don't talk trash like that (or worse) when amongst friends??

Lesson learned for Jennings: watch ur back, u never kno who's recording what.

But now all the haters are gonna use this to crucify a 19 year old for doing what a youngster does. A 19 year old dong something immature? Well I never... Smh

I like the kid's swagger. And like someone else pointed out, he should feel as tho he can beat luke r for the starting job! And I bet sessions couldn't care less about what he said, so why should we? Nothing I've heard about the kid leads me to believe that he's a locker room problem, or un-coachable. In fact, I've heard the exact opposite. This whole thing Blown WAY outta proportion, imo.

And Rosewell, yes we have all seen highlights of him scoring. But what leads you to believe that he will be a shoot-first guard?

Mainly based on the fact he decided to go to Italy for $1.7 million instead of going to college, which tells me he might be a me-first player; another reason is he only averaged 2 assists while scoring about 7 pts in Italy and Euroleague, though he only played about15 mins a game, but he doesn't seem like a good PG based on that stat. The last one is he obviously worried about if he gets the starting job when he should not, which also tells me he is a me-first player just like Redd will not come off the bench.

Going to Europe tells me he's smart enough to skip economics in college. Lets be honest none of these guys intend on "going to college", they intend on going to the most established NBA Farm system. Its why most of them take the easiest, worst paying majors. How many religious studies, Phy Ed, etc do you see when that flashes on the screen during free throws at march madness? You are going to go to Duke, a prestigious University, and take basket weaving, thats dumb if you are there for an education. How many guys who have the perceived talent going in to college that they could have been a preps to pro guy, stay 4 years and earn a degree .0000005%?

This is a relatively short history but up until recently you went to the NBA if you could now you can't so he went to Europe. Are all the previous preps to pros me first, is Lebron? Maybe but why waste the time if you aren't interested in the indentured servitude.

Right now people put more weight on the established College system as an indicator, but if you think the brand of BBall Wisconsin plays resembles an NBA Team more than say a euro pro ball team I'd have to disagree.

Or Duke sitting on the ball withan 8 point lead for the last 8 minutes of a college game, which imo looks a hell of a lot more like the old HS girls 4 corners offense than it does the NBA. The Gap is closing, granted jenning didn't play very much over there but I think as more and more players choose that path Euro teams will adjust to how to best utilize an asset thats probably only going to be there a season or two, something college has been doing for much longer.

College is still better because of the sheer numbers of good players measured at the same developmental level but for how long?

So personally I'd take 1.7 million to play Euro ball over 1 year of college that I never intend on finishing.

The question is how much more a 18-yr-old can learn by playing in Europe vs playing in the US college. I dont think you can learn as much as you would learn here in the college mainly because the playing time is much less there in Europe and you will need to spend much of your 1st year to adjust to the culture, especially for a 18-yr-old and for his 1st yr in Europe. I expect he will learn much more in Europe after his 1st year, but Jennings only played there for a year with very limited playing time, so I dont expect it will make much difference.

And of course its all about marketing on the draft night, they surely sold the 1 yr Euro Experience to many of you, including Bucks officials. As I said, that doesn't mean much when you only play 15 mins a game, I am just hoping his skills dont get rusted during this past year.

I am wait and see with Jennings. If he walks the walk as good as he talks the talk then I am ok with it. The Bucks have needed an edge for a while. They have also been soft for a while. I am in the wait and see mode.

Here are the reasons I like Jennings' decision to go to Europe.

a) His playing time isn't really that different, when you factor in that there are more games in the Euro schedule than there is in a college schedule.
b) Also, he didn't have to spend time in class, so he had that many more hours a day to practice, practice, practice.
c) Even if their ability is less than some of the top notch college teams, he was still playing men, not boys. And there's something to be said for being tested against strong, mature people instead of against students, 99% of whom aren't even on Jennings' level.
d) He already has experience in knowing how to deal with getting paid, with groupies, and with all the distractions that go along with the paycheck. Basically, this guy is not a rookie.
e) A guy who has the balls at 18 to go live and work overseas strikes me as having more maturity than someone who just follows along and goes to school, because that's what you are "supposed" to do. He takes chances, and thinks outside the box, and this shows a level of confidence in himself that many people that age just don't have - even great athletes.
f) Finally, going overseas also shows that he's not afraid to chase his dream no matter where it takes him. I think having the experience of going overseas is probably one of the reasons he seems pretty stoked about the whole Milwaukee thing. After you've lived in another country, living in some midwestern city probably doesn't seem like a big deal. It's a hell of a lot closer to home than anywhere in Italy was, at least.

So for me, his foreign experience is a plus, not a minus. But we won't know until we see how it plays out. I look forward to seeing the summer league games, for sure.
