There's links all over the place. Looks like Oberto, Kurt Thomas, and Bowen coming back. Basically I see this as a salary dump, and as a vote of confidence in BOTH our young small forwards.

Also, the amount of size that came back in the trade kind of keeps us from having to make a desperation pick of a big guy in this draft, which means the Bucks can actually take the luxury of taking whoever they think is the Best Player Available.

I really like this. It feels weird to dump talent like this - unquestionably from a raw talent perspective we are losing out - but that's how the NBA works these days. And if Bowen or Thomas actually suit up, their defense will be quite welcome. They are both over the hill but I think they fit the bill for 'old useful veterans' pretty much to a T - and they expire at the end of the year.

I don't know a damn thing about Oberto though.

I think this is a good trade, though we will suck for this season or maybe next season for sure, but it's worthy to take short-term pain for long-term growth.

Now the Bucks just need to pick a real good talent on Thursday, no matter its PG or PF, then we will be a good team again in a few years.

I guess this is another deal of addition by subtraction. I have the feeling that this deal was made mostly because Hammonds had the idea of bringing Ersan back to play in the same position as Jefferson. I dont think that Bowen or Oberto will make it to Milwaukee as Hammonds will cut them!

Oberto is 50% guarunteed this year and expires the next same with Bowen, neither will be a Buck. Both will be cut to save the 50% we can, Thomas expires next year as well, but his contract is on the books this year. We will save enough to offer Ramon a modest deal and offer a 1 year QO to CV if need be. Also allows us the room to go over the Lux tax by a whole lot less if we S&T one of the Sessions and CV FA contracts to prevent losing them for nothing. With the other50% of the two contracts, Ridnour and Thomas expiring the next year the Bucks now have some chips to facilitate trades, save money, or simply sit and wait til Redd comes off.

Great deal from a team flexibility standpoint, and jeffeson wasn't a difference maker. I am however much more pissed that we didn't dump the salary last year because hanging on to RJ cost us about 7 million in room this summer and for nothing in the W and L column. In fact he probably gave us a few less ping pong balls and draft spots etc.

I don't think he's done dealing either though so we'll see what else happens, I hear they really want Hill and that it will probably take pick 5 to get it done, so we'll see if that means there is something else in the works.

I think the reason the Bucks couldn't dump the salary last year was mainly because they were more eager to get rid of Yi and Hammond was not so sure to put the team on a rebuilding mode, they wanted to give it one more try, but Redd and Bogut's injuries tell them its time to start rebuilding.

We all know they want Hill, but how? Now we have less chips to make a deal, I was thinking maybe they will trade Jefferson for Washington's #5 pick, now are they gonna trade Redd for it? Unless we're also getting expiring contracts such as E.Thomas/M.James plus some useful players such as Nick Young, I don't think that's happening.

Oberto is already gone. Amir Johnson from Detroit. There was a lot of buzz about him in training camp last year. Makes first deal look better. Only 22 years old, more up side and a PF that can board. I never liked RJ so first trade being "finacially helpful" is ok with me.

I like Amir...obviously a big fave of Hammonds...from Detroit...

Kurt Thomas & Bruce Bowen are solid vets...who can D-up....

but Bowen & Kurt do seem a bit shy of being called "ancient"...

but RJ has some miles on his tires...too...

BRING ON THE DRAFT...!!!...

Ham-Man finally pulls the trigger....(patience is a virtue...)

Amir Johnson only looked good in the 1st half of the season, i guess this is an insurance as the #5 pick is gone.

You have to love Bucks fans. You could tell them they just traded Kareem Abdul Jabbar for Dan Gadzuric and the will somehow find a good reason for the trade to make it seem like a good deal for the Bucks.

I wonder if when the Bucks call other teams regarding trades if the other GM gets all giddy and excited as if he just won the lottery. I picture the other GM muting his phone during fits of laughter as he talks the Bucks into handing over a contributor. What did the Bucks get in return for Jefferson's 20 ppg, a mere 5? Thats if all 3 guys actually play.

Dear lhord, not that Richard Jefferson was that great of a player. I'm suprised at this point the Bucks actually have any assets left that another team would actually be interested in.

But the part that kills me is this was probably done for this..........."now they can resign CHARLIE VILLENUEVA and RAMON SESSIONS"...which is probably the part that makes the other GM laugh most of all.

I mean, Ramon Sessions couldn't beat out Luke Ridnour. Thats right people, say that to yourselves again. Ramon Sessions couldn't beat Luke Ridnour for the starting job.

And I'm still trying to figure out if the Bucks ever got over the 48 points CV dropped on them when he was with Toronto or whatever is causing this ridiculous love for an average player at best.

Same ol Bucks.

I'd rather have 15 million to spend next offseason and avoid being a luxury tax payer this year, than keep RJ who is not a difference-maker for the Bucks at this point. Though I will say it is too bad that it wasn't Redd.

The net of this trade is dumping what (so far) is a no-good Yi and the albatross that was Simmons' contract for basically Simmons' old contract in current salary relief. Smart move IMHO. I would now do a sign-and-trade with Sessions and/or CV. Free up more room, get some picks or a competent player in return along with more cap relief. Then this REALLY makes sense. Just blow it up and build with the prince, AB, JA and your new draft picks.

As far is Luke goes; I'll take bets that he's gone before the end of draft night. Maybe to Houston or the Blazers. I guess we'll see.

Yikes....

Bowen is 39 and KT is 37....

so we get Amir, the 22 year old, ready to prove he can play...

kinda like double bogey-ing the 16th and 17th Hole....(BB & KT)

then getting a birdie on the 18th...(AJ),,,if I can put it mildly....

Minnesota traded for the 5th pick, since they didn't already have enough #1's to create an all-Timberwolves All-Rookie Team. I don't like picking a PG like Flynn this year, given the circumstances. I'd roll the dice on Hansbrough, who would fit nicely with Bogut, I think.

In any event, I'm really happy the Bucks' financial logjam is finally starting to break up.

The Bucks need to make CV go away no matter they have $$$ or not! CV simply is another Tim Thomas who is not motivated to play defense at PF, and he is so inconsistent. Sessions is the only one who deserves to stay. We should use the extra $$$ we get from this deal to retain Sessions and simply wait for a good PF becomes available, such Bosh, who will be avialable after next season.
